Foersch, a native of San Diego, is the squad leader of 3rd Squad, 4th Platoon, Alpha Company, 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment. The squad leader used this partnered Afghan National Police and Marine patrol as an opportunity to teach his Marines the role of a point man. The point man, whose primary responsibility is finding safe patrol routes, plays a critical role in daily operations for coalition forces in southern Helmand.
